Charles
Ward
- Committee Member
Charles Ward has over 40 years in journalism associated with the
electrical industry. He began his career with the General Electric
Company as an assistant press officer and, after four years, jumped
the fence into trade magazines starting his career on the newsdesk
of the then weekly publication of Electrical Journal.
In 1970 he was appointed News Editor of Electrical and Radio Trading
(ERT Weekly) where he remained until 1981 when the journal moved
from London to Sutton. Charles, not wanting to relocate, left ERT
and joined the Radio and Television Retailers' Association as its
Press and Public relations Officer, and editor of its members' magazine.
In 1983 he left RETRA to start Electrical Retailing Magazine, the
industry's monthly magazine published by DMG Business Media. In
1997 DMG purchased ERT Weekly from Reed and Charles Ward was appointed
its editor. Until June 2002 he was managing editor of both ERT Weekly
and Electrical Retailing Magazine as well as being an organiser
of the Electrical Retailing Show. Charles has been associated with
TRIC since the 1970s when TRIC meetings were held at London's Connaught
Rooms.
Charles is currently a freelance writer for various trade journals and PR consultant to some electrical industry companies.
